Or… Should We All Just Become Judges?

Let’s be honest.

At some point, we’ve all searched:

“What’s the highest-paying job in the UK?”

Usually around Monday morning.

Or after opening the gas bill.

Or after receiving another email from HMRC.

I did exactly the same.

After living and running businesses in London for more than a decade, I thought I’d compare the UK’s highest-paid professions—and, more importantly, whether they’re actually worth chasing.

Spoiler alert…

Not everyone needs to become a judge.

1. Judge

£110,000 – £325,000

Apparently, the best-paying job in Britain is telling everyone else they’re wrong.

Not bad.

The catch?

You probably need about 30 years of legal experience before someone lets you wear the fancy robe.

2. Barrister

Up to £250,000+

Barristers are a bit like Premier League footballers.

The very best earn incredible money.

The average ones… still spend a lot of time reading.

If you enjoy arguing—and getting paid for it—this could be your dream career.

3. CEO

£96,000 – £220,000+

As a CEO myself, people assume life looks something like this:

☕ Coffee meetings.

✈️ Business class flights.

📈 Watching profits roll in.

Reality?

One minute you’re discussing company growth.

The next you’re trying to remember which password works for Companies House.

Still… I wouldn’t swap it.

Investment Banker

Fantastic salary.

Fantastic bonuses.

Fantastic stress.

If you don’t know what daylight looks like during winter in London…

You’re probably an investment banker.

Quant Developer

Most people have no idea what a Quant Developer actually does.

Including their parents.

But if mathematics is your love language…

You’ll probably earn more than your neighbours.

Airline Pilot

Yes, flying around the world sounds glamorous.

Until you’re explaining to your friends why you’re having breakfast at 11pm because your body clock has completely given up.

Surgeon

Imagine someone saying…

“Here’s a scalpel.
Please don’t make any mistakes.”

Every single day.

Honestly…

They deserve every penny.

The AI Jobs Are Catching Up

One thing surprised me.

The fastest-growing salaries aren’t necessarily in traditional professions anymore.

Careers such as:

• Machine Learning Engineer
• Cloud Architect
• AI Specialist
• Data Scientist

are climbing the salary rankings every year.

The robots haven’t taken everyone’s jobs…

They’re just creating new ones.

But Here’s the Part Nobody Talks About…

A £200,000 salary sounds amazing.

Until HMRC politely reminds you that they’d also like a substantial share.

Welcome to Britain.

This is why many successful people don’t rely on salary alone.

They invest.

They own businesses.

They buy shares.

They build assets that continue working even when they’re asleep.

My Honest Opinion

If I were 18 again…

Would I choose one of these careers?

Maybe.

But I’d still spend every evening learning about investing, business and AI.

Because the people building real wealth usually have multiple income streams, not just one impressive job title.

A high salary is fantastic.

Ownership is even better.

Final Thoughts

The highest-paying jobs in the UK are impressive.

But the richest people I’ve met in London rarely introduce themselves by saying,

“Hi, I’m a Judge.”

They usually say,

“I started a business…”

Or…

“I invested early.”

Sometimes the best-paying career isn’t a job at all.
