Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin 16202ST Review (2026): Worth the Wait?

Some watches impress you the moment you put them on.
Others slowly earn your respect over time.
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin 16202ST belongs firmly in the second category.
After finally purchasing the 2026 model, I can confidently say that this is one of the finest sports watches ever created.
My personal rating?
9 out of 10.
Not because the watch lacks beauty, craftsmanship or heritage—but because perfection always comes with compromise.
First Impressions
The first thing that strikes you is balance.
At 39mm, the Royal Oak Jumbo wears incredibly naturally on the wrist.
Modern luxury sports watches continue to grow larger, but the Jumbo proves that elegance isn’t measured by diameter.
Its slim profile slips effortlessly under a shirt cuff, while the iconic integrated bracelet feels almost like jewellery rather than a traditional watch.
After a full day of wear, it’s easy to forget you’re even wearing it.

The Dial
The blue “Petite Tapisserie” dial remains one of the greatest watch dials ever produced.
Depending on the light, it transforms from deep navy to vibrant electric blue.
Photographs never truly capture its character.
This is a watch that has to be experienced in person.
Finishing That Few Brands Can Match
Audemars Piguet has always been known for case finishing.
The contrast between razor-sharp brushed surfaces and mirror-polished bevels gives the watch an extraordinary sense of depth.
Every edge reflects light differently.
It’s craftsmanship that becomes more impressive the longer you own it.
Everyday Comfort
The Royal Oak bracelet deserves its legendary reputation.
Each link moves independently, creating exceptional flexibility.
Combined with the ultra-thin movement, the Jumbo feels surprisingly lightweight and comfortable during long days.
Whether paired with jeans or a tailored suit, it never feels out of place.

Why I Didn’t Give It 10/10
My only criticism is also a consequence of its beauty.
The extensive brushed and polished steel surfaces mark very easily.
Hairline scratches appear sooner than on many other sports watches, particularly around the bezel and bracelet.
Of course, this is normal for a watch designed to be worn rather than stored.
But if you’re someone who enjoys keeping watches in flawless condition, you’ll likely notice every new scratch.
For me, that’s the only reason this isn’t a perfect ten.
Final Thoughts
The Royal Oak Jumbo isn’t about specifications.
It isn’t about complications.
It’s about proportion, finishing and timeless design.
After wearing it regularly, I understand why so many collectors consider it one of the greatest luxury sports watches ever made.
Would I buy it again?
Without hesitation.
My Verdict
Design: 10/10
Comfort: 10/10
Finishing: 10/10
Wearability: 9/10
Value: 9/10
Overall: 9/10
The scratches may be inevitable, but so is the smile every time it goes on the wrist.

Mason Journal Editor’s Note
The Royal Oak Jumbo isn’t a watch that demands attention.
Instead, it quietly rewards those who appreciate craftsmanship, history, and restraint.
In a world increasingly obsessed with bigger, louder, and more complicated watches, the 39mm Jumbo remains a reminder that true luxury often speaks in whispers.
